Whether you Can Wear a Pretty Easter Dress or Not
Contrary to what some might be thinking or saying, Easter has NOT been canceled! And here’s why…
I’ve seen a lot of posts and commentary lamenting how different Easter will be this year. There’s even one mass shared Facebook post quoting a reporter after a presidential virus update, suggesting Easter won’t be celebrated this year. But hold up, Easter is still on and it’s more important that we remember why we hold this remembrance now than ever!
Easter Traditions and Pretty House-Coats Dresses
Admittedly, our Easter traditions involving group activities and family gatherings, and corporate worship services, of all the church services, Easter is in the top two “biggies” for Christians, will look different.
We girls won’t necessarily be showing off our pretty Easter dresses, but we can still put a little effort into it and wear something cute to make us feel better. Have you seen the hilarious meme supposing that this year our “Easter Dresses” might be old lady housecoats? There’s one idea! 😉
EASTER is On and it’s Bigger than EVER
The simple truth is, the Risen Saviour should be celebrated every day. We’re celebrating the RESURRECTION and it wasn’t canceled. In fact, the resurrection happened in spite of and because of death. Yeah, that’s a little worse than a virus.
Because Jesus Didn’t Change
And while our traditions will change for this year, the reason for our celebration is actually more poignant now than ever. First, because it’s a reminder that Jesus never changes.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)
Because the Resurrection Assures our Healing
In fact, this year, the hope and fulfilled promises mean more than ever. The healing we seek is made possible through God’s sacrificial and miraculous gift.
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. Be He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes, we are healed.
Isaiah 53: 4-5
Because We Need to Remember the HOPE
But it doesn’t stop there. As we talked about last week, our hope for now and for all eternity is in the resurrection of Christ.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
1 Peter 1:31
Nope, Easter is NOT Canceled
So no, Easter is NO canceled! Not even a little. We’re just finding out that the special dresses, Easter baskets, egg hunts, and chocolate bunnies aren’t necessary to CELEBRATE our Resurrected Christ. Well, maybe let’s leave the chocolate because isn’t that another heavenly gift?
It’s kind of like the Grinch figuring out that Christmas was more than the “things and traditions”.
“It came without ribbons, it came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas (the thought) means a little bit more.”
Dr. Seuss’s, How the Grinch Stole Christmas
We only need to replace Christmas with Easter and ribbons and packages with all the “Easter things” and it makes sense. Have we all been a little guilty of replacing the Savior and the thought of Him with “stuff” in lots of areas in our lives? I know I have.
But this year, I think I’m thinking differently. The bells and whistles of the holiday are just the fluff. Some of it is fun and important fluff, but still, it’s just extra. Let’s remember the HOPE and REDEMPTION of the RESURRECTION all the more!
Have a HAPPY DAY Friends.
Very well said! Love this.

You too Renee!
I got to thinking this is another gift given, that stripped of all the preparations we normally go through before family gatherings, e.g food cleaning, decorations, God is given us the chance to just sit at the feet of His throne and encounter His goodness. One to one. May we all take up that invitation!

Well said! It’s time we sit our Martha aside and embrace our inner Mary and take in all He has for us. That’ll preach!
Hugs,
Paula
Thanks for the reminder and such a good message to encourage us. I would rather be in my church then watching ‘live” on Sunday morning. Our Pastor always does a great job with special services for Easter that I will miss, but He is Risen and I know it is true because he walks with me every day and helps me through all kinds of trials. What do people that don’t have Jesus do when they have trials? Enjoy your blog. I am a curvy woman and it helps to know how to dress this not perfect body!!!

No, the virtual services aren’t as good and let’s face it, some pastors don’t translate well to video. 🤫 But it’s better than having no access to church, especially when we can’t even revive home church with small groups like they did in the early church. ☺️ Hope you’re the prettiest girl at your Easter service. 😉
Paula
Amen sister! Easter is to be celebrated!! I actually ordered a dress on line. Ever sense I was a little girl my Mom would buy me an Easter dress. That was one thing I could do to keep it the same. Loved the verses you shared. And the call to celebrate. I want you all to know I will be at my house. Because He is Risen!!

Right! I love a good dress any day. 😬
How true, Paula! We will celebrate Easter this year in my home differently, but certainly joyfully! I plan on eating dinner the same time as my daughter and son-in-law and their littles and we’ll FaceTime while we eat! Will it go smoothly and hassle-free?? Of course not! But if we were together, it wouldn’t either!! Such are the times that memories are made of! And this “Easter bunny Nana” will take a drive out earlier in the morning to their house and drop off the littles’ Easter baskets in the porch. While I’m driving to their house, I’ll be thanking God that He’s blessed me with a wonderful family and the ability to find the joy with them, even if it’s in a different way! I will miss our church service, but I trust we will gather in the future and it’ll be an even more joyous celebration than we would have had!
God Bless you!
