18 OF THE BEST RED PLUS SIZE SWIMSUITS

Do you love a red swimsuit, or is black your go-to color? I have always had at least one red swimsuit in my swim wardrobe when I wasn’t plus size because putting on a red swimsuit like putting on a powersuit. So, I think there’s no reason not to have at least one red swimsuit in my closet now that I’m plus size. Because I love them so much, I scoured the internet and found some of the best red plus-size swimsuits for you.

KEEPING IT REAL

Okay, first things first, when I asked The Hubs to snap this picture on the Fourth of July, I had no intention of posting in a blog post that could be shared on Pinterest or the interwebs. I would only include it in the newsletter that brings you Dimples Diary.

However, since my exact red swimsuit is no longer available, and I was searching for similar red plus-size swimsuits and finding so many good ones, I thought, why not share them with you? And including a photo of me in my red swimsuit is used here as clickbait. 😉

There was no preplanning, self-tanning, or photo editing out of those dimpled thighs. But in the name of keeping it real, I’m taking a deep breath and using this iPhone snap to encourage you to put on that swimsuit and get out there. Wobbly, cellulite thighs are NORMAL!

WHY YOU NEED A PLUS SIZE RED SWIMSUIT

Wearing a red swimsuit isn’t about looking like a Baywatch Babe. Instead, it’s about feeling pretty and powerful.

That might seem like a tall order for a swimsuit since we’re exposing so much of our wobbly bits. But that’s precisely why we should utilize the power of color when buying swimwear.

According to an article in Forbes, red is “associated with our primal survival and signifies strength and resilience. Subconsciously red inspires and helps the wearer to take action and succeed.”

If there was ever a time we’d like to feel powerful, it’s in swimwear!

And lastly, red is attractive, especially if you’re wearing the right shade.

Did you know that that’s why a baboon’s hiney is red? The redder, the better for attracting a mate. ;-D Now, I’m not suggesting that you turn around and shake your red-clad behind at someone at the beach, but you might be shocked at how attractive you feel in a red swimsuit.

Red is associated with our primal survival and signifies strength and resilience. Subconsciously red inspires and helps the wearer to take action and succeed.

I guess I had another photo of me in a red swimsuit. I thought I posted it on the blog already, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. So more dimpled thighs to inspire you to have fun this summer!

15 OF THE BEST RED PLUS-SIZE SWIMSUITS

Most of these red swimsuits are one-piece swimsuits. You won’t find any “miracle suits” on this list because I seek comfort in a swimsuit over compression. And while a one-piece swimsuit isn’t as convenient for going to the bathroom, they are still my favorite for smoothing the midsection.

Each plus-size red swimsuit comes in sizes up to a minimum of XXL in letter sizing or a numeric size of 22, with many going well beyond that.

These swimsuits range in price from $18 to $158, with most falling in the middle price range.

MISSES AND MIDSIZE RED SWIMSUITS TOO!

Most of these swimsuits are also available in Misses sizes too, so I think you’ll find something for every size, taste, and budget!

THE RED PLUS-SIZE SWIMSUITS ON MY WISHLIST

If money and storage space were not a factor, I’d probably buy several on this list, but they are. But I’ve been eyeing this high-neck style for a while now.

This plunging O-ring halter swimsuit reminds me of an aqua swimsuit I had 60 pounds ago and loved.

And lastly, with plenty of coverage, sheer panels, and one-shoulder styling, and at just $32, this one would be well worth the try-on.

BASIC RED MAILLOT PLUS-SIZE SWIMSUITS

There is something so sleek about a basic tank swimsuit. But when it’s red, it’s far from basic!

PLUNGING NECKLINE PLUS-SIZE RED SWIMSUITS

A halter swimsuit or a plunging neckline can be very flattering to the girls and give a boost even without an underwire. However, you might have to alter the straps slightly to achieve the most flattering fit.

RED DRAMATIC NECKLINE PLUS-SIZE SWIMSUITS

I love swimsuits with out-of-the-ordinary necklines. The one-shoulder suit is so classy paired with a sarong or palazzo pants. Ruffles are cute and can boost a smaller bustline. But my favorite might be a high neckline, and this one can be left unsnapped for a sexy yet modest, henley-like look.

THE CUTEST RETRO INSPIRED RED PLUS-SIZE SWIMSUITS

OMGoodness, the retro-inspired suits are darling. I just told The Hubs that I was considering looking for a skirted suit. I think it would be more modest around certain friend groups, like church friends. And why not make it a red one? 😉

WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE RED PLUS-SIZE SWIMSUIT?

Have you found your power suit yet? A power swimsuit. 😉 I’d love to know if you tried one of these or if you have found your best plus-size red swimsuit and come over to the powerful side of swimwear. 😉

I think you look great in your red swimsuits with the breezy top pieces. There are many suits here to pick from! I have not had any swimsuit for almost 20 years….maybe I should start with red….

Thank you Kim. Yes, yes, yes! Start with a red one. In not sure what size you need, but I also have this one on another color, but it’s super flattering on almost any body shape.

Hi Paula! Thank you for showing up in those suits!! I’ve got some more years on me than you, as well as more pounds, and I think it’s the hardest thing in the WORLD for me to show up in anything where my legs are uncovered (and arms, well, that’s another issue for me!). But as I struggle to embrace me as I am, whenever I see someone being authentically themselves, it does my heart good. I call on God daily for self-esteem and love and acceptance, and I think He sent me you today, all in red!! I have a beach trip NEXT summer and by gosh, I’m going to show up in a red swimsuit! My favorite is the one shoulder ruffled one from Lane Bryant, and even though it’s sold out in my size this summer, maybe it’ll be there for me next year!

    Thank you for being YOU!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Donna

Oh Donna, we are God’s beautiful creations and we’ve been tainted by the false (and admittedly sometimes real) perfection we see on social media all the time. My grandmother was not a small (or smooth) women who loved to swim and she would give us “horsey rides” on her leg pool side. I never once thought about her size or texture. She brought us swimming and gave us so much joy. I’ll try to find something similar, if not now, I’ll start hunting in February next year. And you go and wear your red swimsuit with JOY!

      Hugs, 😘

  5. Well, if I had to choose…I’d pick the patterned one you’re wearing in the second photo. But, I no longer have a place to go swimming and surgery lately precludes that for several weeks. I have two gorgeous suits I bought two years ago for a trip to Hilton Head. I ended up wearing my two piece because bathrooms are so doggone tricky with wet suits. So, some day, when those two one piece suits fit again, I’m taking myself off to somewhere and trotting around in them. They’re not red but gorgeous prints in yellow and coral.

I so agree about the two piece, Marsha! It’s I deed tricky. I hope you’re doing well. Did you already have surgery or is it upcoming?

      Hugs and prayers,
      Paula
