A Skirt Set Gives You More Bang for Your Shopping Buck
Have you noticed the skirt set fashion trend? I can’t put my finger on why, but I find a skirt set is very chic not to mention versatile. And I’ve found one that is perfect for summer in that it’s lightweight and cool, flattering and affordable.
I was recently returning a pair of shorts and came across the cutest skirt set at JC Penneys. Luckily it was right before I embarked on a fashion spending freeze – No Buy July. So this beauty came home with me.
Celebration Time
My parents, sisters, a niece, and a fur niece were with us here in Indiana over the Fourth of July. As this was their first trip here (600 miles) since dad’s medical ordeal and my mom’s metastatic cancer diagnosis, it gave us a cause to celebrate. It was party central! I was happily busy with food and dishes and entertaining in general.
So when it came time to get ready for church on Sunday morning, having a simple outfit to jump into look put together without thought was important. I received numerous compliments on the ensemble from both family and friends. Keep scrolling to see the complete look and get the shopping deets.

Skirt, Set, Match
The beauty of a skirt set is that it can look like a dress if worn together or you can style both pieces with other things. I loved the top because it looked great with the floral pants I was wearing the day I tried it on.
This skirt set also comes in a pink floral but I think there’s something very summery about the neutral stripe.
There is no lining in the skirt and it’s a little see-through. But, I wore a pair of nude smoothing shorts underneath and it solved the problem and prevented chub-rub. Here are some current favorites:

Curvy Girl Fit Tip
I was initially drawn to the top because of the banded, tie waistband. If you’re a curvy woman with a great deal of your “fluff” at your hip, you know a banded waist top can be tricky because it gets pushed all the way up to your smallest part by your hips. Steer clear of elastic in the waistband. This band ties at the back and can be kept as loose as you need it. WIN!
Where I’d Wear It
I’d wear this to church, obvi! But, goodness, this is so good I’d wear it just about anywhere.
What I’d Change
The possibilities for this set are vast:
Skirt
Add a plain or graphic tee to the skirt and wear with a pair of sneakers for a cool vibe. Change up the sneakers for a pair of white Birkenstocks or FitFlops (if you’re me) and it’s a less “Mennonite” vibe. Hey, I live in Amish/Mennonite country so a long skirt with sneakers can give off a style vibe I don’t want to convey. Or, I’d wear tennis shoes but add visible jewelry to combat the possibility.
Blouse
I already told you the blouse looked really good with the floral wide-leg pants I was wearing that day. But, it would be great with a pencil skirt or white denim too.
Bang For Your Fashion Buck
What do you think? The versatility of a skirt set gives them a great deal of bang for your buck. And this set is so affordable that if you styled it together and as separates your cost per wear could be minimal. Have you seen any cute skirt sets you’d like to try?

You’re always cool enough, probably too cool. 😉
How cute!!! I love the idea of a skirt set, like you said, so versatile. That color is pretty. I really like the bow – so pretty but not girly, know what I mean?

Yes I do Daenel! And this one is less than $40 bucks so I’d say it’s a must-try situation!

Love the look Paula. I also love your grey hair. Can you share why you decided to go grey and how you are going about it? Are you adding highlights or just letting it grow out?
Thanks, love your posts

Thanks Janice. I have a post or three about the process. If you search “gray hair” on the blog, you should find them. But here are the links in order I wrote them:
